Little Garden Wood

The wood was planted by Lady Reilly in the 1970s as mixture of hard wood and fruitwood trees, the latter intended as a nurse crop for the former.  The fruitwood, mainly cherry, would grow up quickly, sheltering and encouraging the hardwood.  As the hardwood began to flourish, the fruitwood would be felled to allow the hardwood to come through to create a woodland of broad leaf trees native to the area.  She then gave it to the Woodland Trust in 1982.
